god gave me wings, but molloy taught me how to fly
i thought id be happy when i graduated, no more rules no more detentions, i got to be express myself 100% all the time, but no. im scared. molloy is home to me, marist has always been, but molloy was all year round for 4 years, and now im walking off into the big bad city and im excited but terrified. people won’t care that your brothers overseas, people wont care that your late because you had to help your brother to bed because he thinks he can drink like aa fish, people wont care that you miss your best friends and all you need is a hug. at molloy someone cared. there was always a place to get a hug or powdered Gatorade to send to your brother who is fighting for their country. i just watched my senior video and cried like a little baby. molloy taught me to stand up for myself even when everyone says you are wrong, it helped me realize my gifts and taught me how to use them to help better the world. my goal is to get back there and show other kids what its like to learn how to fly.
Yesterday was June 6th, the 66th anniversary of the successful 1944 Allied invasion of France. Several operations were combined to carry out the largest amphibious invasion in history - over 160,000 troops landed on June 6th, assisted by over 5,000 ships, aerial bombardment, gliders and paratroopers. Thousands of soldiers lost their lives on those beaches on that day - many thousands more would follow as the invasion succeeded and troops began to push German forces eastward, eventually leading to the Allied victory in 1945. Collected here are some photographs of the preparation, execution and immediate aftermath of the 1944 D-Day invasion of Normandy, and a few images from 2010. (42 photos total)
